Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 large egg, beaten for egg wash
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ cup grated cheese (like cheddar or parmesan), optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and work it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in sour cream and grated cheese (if using) until a dough forms.
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about ½-inch thickness.
- Use a round cookie cutter to cut out circles, about 2 inches in diameter.
- Place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Remove and let cool on a wire rack for at least 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Unbelievably flaky and tender with a rich, buttery flavor and a hint of tang from the sour cream. Serve warm with a dollop of sour cream or alongside soup.
